Welcome!! To a new, exciting and slightly terrifying adventure to promote Mountain & Moorland and British Riding Ponies in the United States. Many of you will remember that this started as my little dream to have a few Mountain & Moorland classes at our local Welsh show. Just in case you are wondering – we've far surpassed that little dream!
NPS America became official on January 18th when the NPS Council unanimously voted to approve our request to become an area chapter – the first ever chapter outside the United Kingdom! Many thanks go out to all who helped with this process, especially Ms. Linda Impey, NPS Chairman, who has been behind the project since its inception. With the NPS support, we begin our work (and lots of it!) to collectively promote and recognize our ponies – be they British Riding Ponies, Connemaras, Dales, Dartmoors, Exmoors, Fells, Highlands, New Forests, British Shetlands or Welsh. All for one and one for all! The British are coming! (I have to admit, I’ve been dying to use that line!)
Our website – www.NPSAmerica.org – is up and running. This is will be an invaluable tool for details on NPS America activities, important contacts, and breed information. Check it out!
Today, I will travel to England along with Kelly Davidson Chou, NPS America Vice Chairman, to attend the NPS Annual General Meeting and Judges Conference. This will be an exciting and crucially important trip. It affords us the opportunity to meet and gather information from those at NPS, both officers and members, who will help to make our fledgling group the best it can be. I look forward to reporting back on the results of this British Adventure.
I am honored to be at the forefront of this organization. To some, it may seem like a bunch of people with little horses. But I know it to be much more. I, and those like me, see the beauty in a perfect Highland, feel the elation of a brisk drive with our Dales, see the joy on a child’s face as he safely pilots a diminutive British Shetland and know the peace we experience from even the most fleeting moment with any of our own beloved ponies. This is what NPS America is really all about.
With best regards, your new chairman,
